This issue keeps resurfacing on social media. Bongbong Marcos’ critics claim he did not earn a Bachelor’s degree from Oxford

To find out whether BBM has a college degree or not, consider the following:

IT’S NOT “BACHELOR’S DEGREE” IN OTHER COUNTRIES

The world does not revolve around the Philippines. Why do we think it always does? What we call a certain thing here is NOT ALWAYS the same as how other countries call it.

Examples:

aubergine vs eggplant
bank holiday vs legal holiday vs public holiday
car park vs parking lot
French fries vs chips
courgette vs zucchini

In the Philippines, we call our lawyers “attorneys” while, in the UK, they call them “solicitors” or “barristers” depending on what they practice.

In the Philippines, we address our doctors “Dr.” while in the UK, they call them Mr, Miss, Ms, or Mrs.

In answering whether BBM has a college degree, we need to remind ourselves that what we call a “Bachelor’s degree” in the Philippines may not be what they call it in other countries.

For example, when you enter a grad school, such as Cornell, one of the requirements is: “bachelor’s degree or its equivalent”.

The reason they included “or its equivalent” is Cornell (and other educational institutions in America) recognizes that a “Bachelor’s degree” has a different term in other countries. (Or perhaps you can also show that you have enough experience in lieu of a college degree.)

Let’s look at this link from Cornell University Graduate School:

https://gradschool.cornell.edu/admissions/prepare/international-degree-equivalencies/#results

Based on this link, we can see that the equivalent of a “Bachelor’s degree” in other countries are:

In France, Algeria, Belgium, Vietnam, Cambodia, they call it “License”.

In Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Yugoslavia, and other countries in Eastern Europe, they call it “Diploma”.

In Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and other Latin American countries, they call it “Licenciado”.

In Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, it’s called “Diplom”

Ireland calls it “Honor’s Level BA or BSc”; Indonesia calls it “Sarjana”; Italy calls it “Laurea breve”; Japan calls it “Gakushi”.

If we look at the UK in the list, right now, they call it “Bachelor’s”.

But BBM graduated in 1978. Do we have any data of what they called it back then? Did they call it Diploma since some countries in Europe call it Diploma, too?

You research and tell me in the comments section.

WAS MIRIAM DEFENSOR-SANTIAGO A LIAR?

If BBM didn’t finish the equivalent of a “Bachelor’s degree”, are you saying Miriam Defensor-Santiago lied to the public when she said, on national TV, that one of the reasons she chose Bongbong Marcos as her VP is he was her student at the UP College of Law?

If it’s true that BBM went to UP College of Law, how did he get admitted if he didn’t have a college degree “or it’s equivalent”?

HOW DID BONGBONG MARCOS GET TO WHARTON?

If Bongbong Marcos didn’t finish the equivalent of a college degree, why did Wharton accept him for their MBA program?

Isn’t a college degree “or its equivalent” a prerequisite to a graduate school program?

CAN A SHIFTEE GRADUATE FROM HIS ORIGINAL COURSE?

In his interview with Karen Davila, Bongbong Marcos said he shifted from Philosophy, Politics, and Economics to Social Studies.

Tell me if you know someone who shifted courses and graduated in their original course. No one, right? So, why are you making a big deal about him not finishing his original course?

** You have to listen to the entire interview to understand the story and how they lost everything plus documents in Malacanang when they left.

WHAT DID BBM DO AT OXFORD FOR 3 YEARS?

If you look at the list of Oxford’s degrees, you will notice that MOST of their social science courses are three years.

Bongbong Marcos entered Oxford in 1975 and got his Diploma in 1978. That’s three years. Isn’t that consistent with the 3-year social science courses at Oxford?

If he didn’t earn the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree at Oxford, what did he do there for three years?

MARCOS NEVER CALLED IT A BACHELOR’S DEGREE

If you watch BBM’s interviews from years ago, this issue came up way back then. Even then, he NEVER referred to his college course completion as “Bachelor’s degree”.

He has always said: “I have a Diploma from Oxford”.

It was the journalists who kept pressing if “Diploma” is the same as “Bachelor’s degree”.

**In the video from years ago, Bongbong said he has a Diploma. He said, “I have always said that I have a Diploma from Oxford at hindi ako nagtapos sa Wharton. It has always been the case.”
